Thespians To Sponsor Dramatics

Thespian Society is a little. acknowledged part of Maine West. It is a national honorary society for high school students interested in dramatics.

National Thespian Society was started in 1929 at Fairmont College by the teachers and students. It meets every five years for a convention to formulate policies. The society is located in all 50 states, the Panama Canal Zone, and Japan.

In order to be eligible for entrance into Thespians, students must have worked 100 hours on dramatic productions at school. This includes not only performing but also backstage work. Acting in any production automatically counts as 50 hours of credit, and backstage work is counted by the actual number of hours accumulated. Hours devoted to Aquiana and WMTH also can be counted for Thespian Society.

The officers of Thespian Society this year are Arlette Dawson '67, president; David Freer '67, vice‑president; and Elizabeth Grange '67, secretary. Thespian Society's sponsor is Mr. Garth Boyer.

At this time membership in Thespians is rather small. Dave Freer commented on this by saying, "Potentially we probably have a sizable amount of people eligible for membership -the trouble is they don't know it. . .

Arlette remarked, "People who think they are eligible should come to meetings when they are announced or get in touch with one of the officers and find out for sure."

Thespians sponsored the recent production of The Glass Menagerie and will sponsor all school plays in the future.
