Sophomores To Hear
Band Show Preview

The Sophomore Class will assemble in the auditorium for a program on January 27. Sophomores will be excused from eighth period classes that day to attend a preview of the upcoming band concert.

The Concert Band will present a variety of music from Debussey to the Tijuana Brass. From Debussey will be "Sarabande" from music selected "pour le piano." The Tijuana Brass selection is "The Mexican Shuffle."

Also included in the program will be "Hands Across the Sea," one of Sousa's most famous pieces; a selection from Strauss; and selections from Flower Drum Song. To be included from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical are "Chop Suey" and "I Enjoy Being a Girl."

In a different vein are "Normandie" and "Ile de France," two French folk songs based on the provinces.

The "piece de resistance" possibly is the "Short Ballet for Awkward Dancers." Included in this will be pieces with such memorable titles as "The March for Two Left Feet," the "Waltz for People with Slipped Discs," and the unforgettable "Four Footed Gallop."

All of these selections and more will be performed at the band concert to be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, in the Maine West auditorium.
