Cindermen To Open Season

"We will improve as the season moves along," stated the track Head Coach Joe Jobst as he analyzed his relatively inexperienced squad. Seven returning lettermen are the keys to Warrior success during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Four of these boys have their specialty in the long distance field which "will be very strong."

Junior Lee LaBadie heads the list of experienced returnees for Coach Jobst and is well‑qualified, for he ran the fastest mile recorded in the state last year. Ed Lusk '67 will run a strong half mile for the Warriors while Warriors Doug Chase '67 and Jim Braun '67 head the two mile delegation. Another boy who should help out is Jim Kesaris '67 in the two mile event.

Coach Jobst feels that Palatine, Arlington, and Wheeling will be the biggest obstacles to the Maine drive for a Conference championship. Despite an extremely difficult indoor season, Coach Jobst forecasts, "We'll do all right," and hopes to have the team at its peak for the Conference and District meets. He also stated, "We need help in the dashes and lack depth," when thinking about the team's weaker points.

In the weight events the Warriors have George Bongratz '67 and Roy Svenson '67 who will handle the shot putting and discus throwing chores. Lettermen Jim Mueting '68 will pole vault while the jumping duties will fall onto the shoulders of Larry Nelson '68. Larry is the Warriors' leading high jumper and broad jumper.
