Swimmers Lose Two In Succession

The old year ended on a sad note for the varsity swim team. They were defeated in the last swim meet of the year by Deerfield. The swim team was also beaten in its attempt to start the new year with a victory, for they were defeated by Maine South.

These defeats were lightened by the fact that Grant Wenzel '67 set a school record in the 50‑yard freestyle event while swimming against Deerfield and by the setting of a pool record in the 400‑yard freestyle relay.

The last meet of 1966 was the Maine West-Deerfield meet. Maine lost this event by a score of 59-36. It was in the 50-yard freestyle that Grant Wenzel '67 set the school record. Fred Strudhoff '67 came in

fourth in this event. Maine won the 200-yard individual medley with a score of 6-3. Chris Olander '69 placed first and Dave Eley '67 third. Paul Anderson '68 took third in the 100-yard butterfly while Dave Eley placed fourth. Marc Bonnivier '67 took second in the 100-yard freestyle.

Maine won the 100‑yard backstroke with Chris Olander '69 placing first and Norm Hudson '67 following in second. Maine also won the 400‑yard freestyle relay while at the same time tying the school record.

Maine won two events against Maine South. These events were the 50‑yard freestyle and the 400‑yard freestyle relay. It was in the 400‑yard freestyle relay that the school pool record was set.
