Blond, blue‑eyed, 5' 4" Nancy Gunn might best be described as a very "cheer‑full" senior. She has been promoting school spirit as a cheerleader for six years and as president of Pep Club for two years. She explained that "Pep Club has a big job in trying to promote and foster school spirit, and it is up to the students to back their teams and clubs."
Nancy is also involved in Senior Leaders, Student Council, Brotherhood Society, Spirit Senate, and Ski Club. She enjoys skiing very much and revealed that one of her funniest experiences occurred on a skiing trip at Pine Mountain when she met four firemen at one o'clock in the morning. In her freshman and junior years Nancy participated in class council, and in her sophomore year she was vice‑president of her class. This year she was elected to the Homecoming Court.
Recently, Nancy was chosen for the DAR Good Citizen Award. "It is the greatest honor I have ever received, and I am proud to represent Maine West," she acknowledged.
This year Nancy is taking English IVW, psychology, earth science, drama, government, and democracy, which is her favorite subject. Even with all her activities she made the honor roll this semester. In what little spare time she has, Nancy goes on dates or just tries to relax.
"I had one of my most embarrassing moments," Nancy admitted, "when I wore my new cheerleading uniform to school and found out I had done something wrong ‑ I had to go around all day with my chevrons sewed on upside down!"
Nancy feels that the best things about Maine West are "the friendly atmosphere created by the students and faculty, and the many facilities, courses, and activities offered to the students." However, she feels Maine West could be improved with the addition of an intercom system and a field house.
Some advice that has helped Nancy and she thinks may help other students is to acquire good study habits, to participate in activities, and most important to budget your time. "In my freshman and sophomore years I neglected to do this, and I got into a real jam," she admitted. "I know that if I didn't budget my time now I could never fit everything in."
During the past four summers Nancy has worked for the park district as a lifeguard and as a counselor at the day camp. She hopes to major in recreation and municipal park administration and to obtain a teaching certificate at the University of Illinois in Champaign.
Nancy has two great pet peeves‑drivers who don't use their turn signals and pictures that are hung crookedly.

"Students shouldn't go through school without ever participating in any extra curricular activities. They shouldn't wait until their senior year to realize they haven't joined any clubs or been in activities" is Larry Scully's advice to Maine West students.
Larry, alias "Skull," is a senior standing 5' 10", has blue eyes and blond hair, he thinks. "I haven't looked recently." He is active in gymnastics, tennis, Student Council, and is the vice-president of M‑Club.
When asked what he does in his spare time, he replied, "I have spare time?" Usually, if he isn't busy doing homework, which he says must be his hobby because he's doing it all the time, he can be found racing slot cars.
"I think that the clubs should be able to have more liberal interpretation of rules. They should be able to have some of their activities passed." This is one of the ways in which he would try to improve the school.
Larry's pet peeves are short lunch periods, teachers giving back papers late, and not enough time between classes. "I'm usually late for three classes a day!"
"The best thing about Maine is the Pep Club and how active and good it is. The guys appreciate having their pictures in the 'Know Your Warrior' and hearing the times and places of the games in the bulletin" But, he dislikes the "poor school spirit and lack of interest in the school activities."
"You rinky‑dink!" he answered with a small laugh, saying this was his favorite expression. He claims he picked it up from gymnastics.
When asked about his most embarrassing moment, he laughed. "I've had quite a few of those. I suppose it's when I got into a car after practice one day and found out it wasn't mine. Maybe it could be put under the funniest incident, but I can't say I was laughing very hard at the time!"
His favorite foods are pretzels and oatmeal cookies, "and some times a little milk." He's traveled across the country and has been in Canada. Larry's favorite city and state are Chicago, Illinois, "I think."
"The most important thing about Maine is the wide variety of subjects it offers," Larry commented. Larry is taking English lVE, Chemistry II, and college analytic geometry. He hopes to get a degree in chemical engineering, either at the University of Michigan or Kansas State.
When asked if he had any outside activities, he remarked, "I work, and homework takes a great deal of my time."
