On Tuesday, January 24, the Maine West varsity swim team overwhelmed Riverside-Brookfield, thus adding another victory to its list of wins. The swim team won the meet against Riverside-Brookfield by a score of 63-33.
Maine won eight events in the meet. These were the 200‑yard medley relay, won by a score of 7‑0; the 50‑yard freestyle, won by a score of 6‑3; the 200‑yard individual medley 5‑4; and the diving event which Maine took by a score of 5‑4. Also won by Maine was the 100‑yard freestyle, in which Maine scored eight points to Riverside's one point; the 100‑yard back stroke and the 100‑yard breast stroke were also won by a score of 8‑4. Maine finished the meet by defeating Riverside‑Brookfield 7‑6 in the 400‑yard relay.
Maine swimmers took six first place positions in the meet. First place in the 50‑yard freestyle was won by Grant Wenzel '67. Chris Olander '69 took first place in the 200‑yard individual medley and 100‑yard back stroke, and first place position was also won by Mike Teegan '68 in the diving event. First places were also won by Dan Brinkman '68 in the 100‑yard freestyle and Dave Klamer '67 in the 100‑yard breast stroke.

Second place spots were won by five Maine swimmers. Jim Greenwald '68 placed second in the 100-yard freestyle, and Norm Hudson '67 took second in the 100-yard back stroke. Also winning second spots in the meet were Rainer Paasch '67 in the 400-yard freestyle and Tim Hinde '68 in the 100-yard breast stroke and Jeff Rizzo '68 in the 200-yard freestyle.
Third place positions were won for Maine West in three events. Fred Strudhoff '67 took third in the 50‑yard freestyle;
Dave Eley '67 took third in the 100‑yard butterfly; and Larry Harrison '67 took third in the 400‑yard freestyle.
The last swim meet took place on Tuesday, February 7, against Niles North. The results of the meet will be in the next issue of the Westerner.
