Track Team Opens Year With Schurz

Coach Joe Jobst's varsity track team, hopeful that the weather will not further hinder its efforts, has continued its preparations for the opening of the indoor season. The Warriors first two encounters with Proviso West and Niles East were cancelled by the barrage of snow, and their first meet was held against Schurz last Tuesday.

Hopes for a strong track squad this year rest largely on the abilities of their nine returning lettermen. Most of these men perform in the distance events, but the

Warriors will also have several fine boys in the field events. The two-mile run should be one of the cindermen's strongest points with returnees Doug Chase '67, Jim Braun '67, and Lee LaBadie '68. Lee ran the fastest mile recorded in the state last year and will probably specialize in that event.

Two boys that Coach Jobst is especially enthusiastic about are pole vaulter Jim Mueting '67 and two‑miler Jim Kesaris '67. Mueting recently cleared the bar at 13 feet, and Kesaris is developing into one of the Warriors' best distance threats.
