"Things should pick up if we start getting some breaks" is Phil Murdock's prediction for this year's basketball team.
Phil is this week's Warrior of the West. He is 5' 10" tall and has light‑brown hair and blue eyes. Phil has lettered once in football, and he hopes to earn his basketball letter this year.
As his most outstanding memory, Phil cites the last Maine South football game. This is because he threw two touchdown passes. Phil's favorite sport is football because he "likes the hard, fast action involved."
The Maine East Basketball Regional is Phil's worst memory because "by committing a foul against Maine East, I gave them the game!"
According to Phil, it seems that "the hardest part of training, as in any sport, is getting back into shape." Through participation, he has learned responsibility.
"Keep with it, and put yourself out 100 per cent" is Phil's advice for boys going out for basketball.

Concerning school spirit, Phil jokes, "Spirit will come when you come to the games!" In his opinion, the teachers and the coaches are the best things about Maine.
"By making a schedule and sticking to it" Phil manages to keep up with his studies. "The trick," he explains, "is sticking to it!"
Phil plans to apply for a scholarship in football and hopes to attend either Knox College or Elmhurst College. In the distant future he would like to teach Spanish at the college level.
If it were possible to change himself, Phil would "grow three inches and gain 15 pounds."
Phil's favorite saying is "rookie," and his favorite food is Italian beef sandwiches.
In his spare time, Phil enjoys playing the guitar.
