Juniors To Hear Special Concert

On Thursday, March 9, a special music assembly will be presented to the Junior Class. Eighth period that day the juniors will be excused from their classes to attend the preview of this Orchestra and Vocal Concert.

The String Orchestra will present the finale from the "St. Paul's Suite." This composition is composed of a continuous round on the Irish Jig melody and "Greensleeves."

Special choral music will include the Concert Choir singing Scarlatti's "Exsultate Deo" in its original Latin form. To provide for an interesting variety, the choir will also sing selections from this year's musical Flower Drum Song by Rodgers and Hammerstein.

The Concert Orchestra will introduce the Maine West audience to the original source of the "Maine West Alma Mater" by playing the finale to "Brahms' Symphony No. 1." The orchestra will also play "Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 2 in D minor" featuring Mark Nichols '67 as student soloist. To conclude the program in a different vein, the Concert Orchestra will perform selections from the hit Broadway musical Mame.

According to the director, Mrs. Mildred Heidorn, orchestra, and Mr. Wilbur Schafer, choral, the program will be one of the best presented to the Maine audience.

All of these selections as well as others will be performed at the Orchestra and Vocal Concert on Friday, March 10, at 8 p.m. in the Maine West auditorium.
