Gymnasts To Qualify For
State Competition

Tonight the varsity gymnastics squad will compete with other high schools in the Conference to determine which gymnasts will qualify to go downstate. Larry Scully, who finished tenth in State last year on the side horse, Ron Sass, and John Holtz are likely to qualify for State competition.

On February 14 the musclemen held a meet against Waukegan, but the Bulldogs kept the meet under control in spite of the Warriors capturing three first places. Larry Scully, Steve Fox, and Ron Sass took first, fifth, and sixth places respectively on the side horse. On the high bar Ron Sass placed first, and Jay Carley and George Corcoran followed in fourth and sixth places respectively.

John Holtz, Ron Sass, and Larry Cillo captured second, fourth, and sixth places respectively on the rings. On the parallel bars Ron Sass, Rich Suda, and Gary Grooman placed first, fourth, and fifth respectively. On the trampoline Howie Tyler finished fourth. The final score was 78‑54 in favor of Waukegan.

On February 9, however, the varsity gymnastics squad beat Forest View 67‑65 in a Conference meet while the meet with Waukegan was a non‑Conference meet. Again the Warriors took a lead by capturing four first places on the side horse, high bar, rings, and parallel bars.

Ron Sass was in first place with Jay Carley following in third place on the high bar. On the parallel bars Ron Sass placed first, and Rich Suda came in second. John Holtz and Ron Sass placed first and second on the rings respectively; Howie Tyler was in third place on the trampoline; and in the tumbling event Rich Suda finished fourth.

Previously the musclemen suffered a loss to Proviso West in which the score was 82‑50 on February 7. Larry Scully finished first on the side horse; Howie Tyler on the trampoline was third; and Ron Sass and Jay Carley captured second and third places respectively on the high bar.
