Tankers Take Sixth In District Meet

The majority of the varsity swimmers completed their season last Saturday when t hey competed in the State District meet held at Niles West. Six Warrior tankers will advance to the State finals at Evanston tomorrow.

In a District field of 12 teams Maine West took sixth place. The Warrior 400‑yard freestyle‑relay team, manned by Chris Olander, Marc Bonnivier, Dan Brinkman, and Tom Wenzel, grabbed second place in that event, thus qualifying for the State finals. Dave Klamer, Jim Greenwald, Norm Hudson, and Bonnivier took fourth place as members of the medley‑relay team. Wenzel placed fourth in the 50‑yard freestyle, and Olander splashed to a sixth place in the 100‑yard backstroke to also qualify for Saturday's action.

The swimming Conference meet was held on Saturday, February 11, also at the Niles West pool. In the eight‑school league West's Warriors could place only a lowly sixth. Deerfield was the Conference champ. Other teams that finished ahead of West were Niles North, Maine South, Glenbrook North, and Glenbrook South in that order; New Trier West and Niles West finished at the bottom of the standings.

The best Warrior showing in the Conference contest was that of the freestyle‑relay team, a third place.
