Council Announces Homecoming Plans

Maine West's eighth annual Homecoming Week, October 8 through 14, will feature several innovations this year.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, September 26 and 27, nine Senior girls were nominated for the Homecoming Court. These girls, who will be notified tonight, are the candidates for Queen. They will wear mums for the week preceding Homecoming Week.

October 5, 9, 10, and 11 will be the dates of balloting for the '67-'68 Queen. Her name will be announced at half-time of the varsity game. The remaining eight girls will act as her Court.

There will be a tea for the girls and their parents on Saturday, October 14, at 7 p.m.

Float-building begins Saturday, October 7. The floats, sponsored by many of the clubs, will be based on the theme, "Sound of Victory." Floats may be built between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

All construction of floats will be within the boundaries of Lee, Algonquin, Touhy, and Wolf. This was changed to enable students to go to the float-building headquarters directly from school, according to Jody Kinder '69, Organizations Committee chairman.

A motorcade with the floats will assemble at Lake Opeka at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 13. it will leave the lake at 2:45 p.m. and travel down Lee to Thacker where it will be joined by the Maine West Band.
At the Post Office the band will disperse, and the motorcade will continue to school.

Immediately preceding the parade at 1:25 p.m. will be a pep rally in the stadium. School will be dismissed at 1:16 p.m. on Friday, in order that students may attend the assembly. At this time the Court will be presented.

Maine's first night Homecoming game will be played that Friday against the Glenbrook South's Titans. The sophomore game is at 6 p.m. and the varsity game is at 8 p.m. Between the games the floats will be judged.

Homecoming festivities will end Saturday night with the annual dance to be held for the first time in the auditorium from 8 to 11:30 p.m.

At approximately 10 p.m. the Queen and her Court will be presented for the last time. At this time the Queen will be crowned.

Present to carry the crown will be Michelle Landry. Es-corting Michelle is Eric Kinder.

"I hope that the new Homecoming ideas will promote more school spirit during Homecoming Week," asserted Jody.
