Four New Administrators Take Post at Maine West |
|||||||||
| A few changes have been made in the Maine executive staff this year. Three men now have different jobs and a fourth, a new addition, has been imported from Maine South. Mr. James Coburn is Maine West's new assistant principal in charge of staff. Although Mr. Coburn is new to Maine West, he has been connected with the Maine schools for some time. First, he taught English, sponsored the Student Council, and served as a counselor at Maine East. Later, he joined the Maine South staff as the director of guidance. Mr. Coburn's duties are concerned mainly with the instructional staff. However, he is interested in meeting and getting to know the students. According to Mr. Coburn, "There is not a warmer, friendlier school or a more cohesive student body or faculty than I have found at Maine West." Mr. A. K. H. Cochrane, last year's dean of students, now holds the position of assistant principal in charge of students. His present assignment entails the supervision and/or coordination of student activities, student control, student scheduling, building and grounds security, and the summer school program. According to Mr. Cochrane, his new job offers exciting challenges and the opportunity to work with the students in all aspects of their school lives: welfare, education, activities, and conduct. While serving in his new capacity, Mr. Cochrane hopes to become acquainted with as many students as possible. He |
feels that Maine West is an outstanding school and that it will continue to be so with the cooperation of the students, faculty, staff, and parents. Succeeding Mr. Cochrane as dean of students is Mr. Fred Bencriscutto former career counselor. He feels that this position requires a close relationship with students, teachers, and administration. Required also is the ability to make decisions which are accurate and based on "The Maine Way." Above all, Mr. Bencriscutto feels that his position requires "a strong confidence in the integrity, pride, and loyalty of the student body." Mr. Eldon Burk, who is a biology teacher and Student Council sponsor, has taken over the newly created position of dean of boys. "I find my new position interesting," - commented Mr. Burk. "However, my schedule is now so heavy that I sometimes feel as if I meet myself coming down the hall!" Mr. Coburn's and Mr. Cochrane's offices are located within the newly remodeled Main Office. Mr. Bencriscutto and Mr. Burk can be found in the Deans' Office, R-101, along with Miss Mae Jean Engen, dean of girls. The deans will be located elsewhere when the new wing for Maine West is eventually completed. Mr. James Killam has replaced Mr. Bencriscutto as the career counselor at Maine West. |
