Linda, Bill To Preside Over Student Council

"A person who starts a project should continue working on it until he has reached his goal" is the philosophy of Bill Zografos, Student Council president.

He hopes that he can live up to this during his term as president. Among his plans to make the Council more effective is changing the Council into a two house system: an upper house consisting mainly of the executive council and a lower house made up of homeroom representatives.

Already this dark - haired "Greek" has made the Council less formal in order to foster greater student participation. He also plans to have a special bulletin board in the cafeteria so the student body may be more aware of the activities of the committees.

Bill's intense brown eyes lit up when he was asked about the changes in this year's Homecoming. "It'll be just great!" He does, however, admit that there will be one hangup. "The parade will be during rush hour and might be a problem."

"Advice to students? To newcomers I'd say become involved in Maine's activities." To those who have been here a few years, his only advice is to study because, "You'll never get anywhere goofing off.

According to Bill, this school is really great. His only complaint is that the attitude of some students is pathetic. "If kids actually participated more, they'd see more of what the school is like."

Bill's busy academic schedule of business law, government, democracy, business English, geology, and trigometry and college algebra reflects his active interests in law and politics.

He plans to attend Northern Illinois University where he will major in law or political science. After college he hopes to become a lawyer or politician.

Bill has participated in Student Council for the past four years and is a member of Brotherhood Society. He thinks he leads a relatively uneventful life but feels that a person can't do a good job if he tries to do too many things at one time.

Bill spent part of his summer at Camp Cheley in Colorado. Cheley is the camp where Student Council sends its president each year to learn new ideas.
"I just can't stand it when some kids make fun of other kids!" claimed Linda Wells, secretary of Student Council. Linda stands 5'4" and has hazel eyes and brown hair. She can usually be found working in C-220 over a typewriter.

Besides being busy with Stu-dent Council, Linda has two other activities which keep her occupied. They are Aquiana and Brotherhood Society. "Everyone should get involved with Council-sponsored activities. Council is not just for the representatives but works for all the kids."

Her advice to students is to "get involved and meet new people. A person can learn so much more than just book knowledge. If a person works hard, he'll have plenty of time for enjoyment."

Linda's most embarrassing moment took place in Mr. Gaston Freeman's government class. "Mr. Freeman told me I looked just like my brother!"

"Opportunities through courses and extra curricular activities are the greatest things about Maine West." Linda feels that many things are offered which enable students to get more out of their education.

This busy senior's hobbies include swimming, water and snow skiing, cooking, and sewing. She is constantly on the go.

Linda feels that "there could be a better friendship between all of the students at school!"

Another thing that bothers Linda is the lack of a "communications link between the administration, faculty, and students."

Linda plans to go into teaching at Northern or Northwest Missouri State.
