Band Continues MW Traditional Success

During the summer the colorful and spirited Maine West Marching Band once again received many high honors. The band, under the direction of Mr. Robert D. Kuite and Mr. Michael A. Cuthbert, performed at Lake Park and West Park.

On July 5 the band represented the state of New York in the International Lions Club Parade which was held in Chicago. For their fine performance they received a certificate of commendation.

The award-winning band then traveled to Springfield in August for the annual State Fair. There they competed with 35 other schools throughout the state. The band continued their success by taking nothing less than first place.

All 96 members of the band were awarded with gold medals, and a trophy was presented to Maine West. This is the tenth consecutive year that the band has remained victorious at the State Fair.
Mr. Robert Kuite, Music Department chairman, stated, "We are very proud of the band, and they deserve to be congratulated for their excellent performance and the fine way they represented Maine West. Being the band's director, I realize that no matter what the conductor does, the performance counts on the effort put forth by the students.

This year the newly formed band staff consists of Jerry Boeckenhauer '68, Debbie Carrocio '68. Kevin Dole '68, John Houston '68, Carol Kaap '70, Nancy Lilja '69, Peg Loebach '68, Todd Ramcke '69, Bob Schwenke '68, and Rhonda Sundquist '69.
