Harriers Take Two Meets |
|||||||||
| Tuesday, September 19, the Maine West harriers romped to a victory over Elk Grove and Barrington in a Double Duo held at Barrington. This was the cross country team's second win in as many starts. Their first win came in the Center Meet in which 24 teams participated. Lee LaBadie took a first in both meets and set a new course record in the meet held at Maine West with a time of 9:58 for two miles. The team won the meet by 43 points. In the Barrington Double Duo, LaBadie came in first with a time of 9:51. Pete Klages '68 was second with 10:53, Bill Deuser '68 was third with a time of 10:54. The scores for the Double Duo Meet were Maine West over Barrington, 18-43; Maine West beating Elk Grove, 21-35; and Elk Grove defeating Barrington 25-34. The frosh-soph team did even better than the varsity in the Barrington Double Duo. The first five finishers in that meet were from Maine West, as was the seventh place runner. |
Bob Lidinski came in first with a time of 11:33; Doug Keehn placed second with a time of 11:37. Elk Grove didn't have a man place until the fourteenth position. The meet scores were Maine West sinking the Pirates of Palatine, 15-44; Maine romping over Elk Grove. 15-50; and Palatine over Elk Grove, 15-49. The varsity cross-country team looks solid with nine returning lettermen this year: Deuser, Christiansen, Frost, Hagedorn, Glitz, LaBadie, Lewis, Klages, and Mach. According to Coaches William Barringer and Ross Blake the sophomore team is outstanding; however, it is still too early to predict the outcome of their season as it all depends on how bard the boys work and how much they want to win the Conference championship. Both coaches feel that this could be a good year for the cross-country team. |
