Sports Spectacular |
|||||||||
| Last September 8, the Fall Sports Spectacular took place in the Maine West football stadium. The event, sponsored by the Dads' Club, is their major fundraising activity for the year. Tickets for the event were $.75 or $1.50 including the chicken box dinner. The chicken was provided by Brown's Fried Chicken. The purpose of the Spectacular was to commemorate the first official use of Maine's new stadium lights. Thanks to the dedication and vigorous efforts of many organizations, the lights have become a reality. The highlight of the evening came when the Dads' Club presented a $5,000 check to the school board as part of the cost for the lights. According to a Dads' Club member, the majority of this money came from donations for the Cadillac which was raffled off last year. |
Included in the event were various intramural demonstrations by the cross country teams and the football squads. The cheerleaders and the Pom-Pon girls also performed. Afterwards there was a dance in the school cafeteria. Admission was $.50. Since the dance was sponsored by the Dads' Club, the school dress code was not in effect. Mr. Donald Rohrbach, publicity chairman of Dads' Club, felt that this may have been one reason for the good attendance. Publicity for this event was made difficult by its close proximity to the beginning of school. To compensate for this, the Dads' Club hung posters in Des Plaines and put articles in the various newspapers. A notice also appeared on the Community Bulletin Board. |
