Students, Elect New Member's To Brotherhood Society |
|||||||||
| On Monday and Tuesday, February 19 and 20, new members of Brotherhood Society were elected by their respective class-es. Assemblies presenting these new members were held Thursday of that week from homeroom through third period. Father John Smith, assistant administrator of Maryville and an all-American forward for the University of Notre Dame in 1957, spoke to the assemblies. Father Smith's speech dealt with self pride and "having enough confidence in yourself so that you don't need to put up a false front." "Judging from class reactions, Father Smith's talk was very well appreciated," commented Tom Barrett '69, president of the society. Father Smith received a standing ovation from each class after delivering his speech. Six students, three boys and three girls from each class, are elected to this honorary society annually. Each member is chosen on the basis of his qualities which foster the spirit of brotherhood in life as well as in school. |
Members of the Freshman Class elected Rita Nelson, Lora Lorenz, Honora Quinn, Fred Horn, Dave Nelson, and Dave Huizenga. Sophomores included Dorrie Johnson, Cathy Leer, Vicki Coash, Jim Kulik, Bob Edwards, and John Schmidt. Newly elected juniors are Barb Bednarz, Jo Hynes, Bill Markworth, Dave Zulawski, Laura Frey, and Jim Webster. Seniors elected were Beth French, Carole Hway, Randee Jackson, Al Long, Greg Essig, Lee LaBadie, and Del Hachini. Tuesday morning, February 27, Brotherhood Society elected officers for the '68-'69 school year. Later that night a dessert was held for the members in the teachers' cafeteria. At this time new officers were announced. The Society chose Jim Webster '69, president; Vici Coash '70, vice-president; and Debbie Lusk '70, secretary-treasurer. The clothing drive sponsored by Brotherhood Society during Brotherhood Week was extremely successful. Tom Barrett and Bill Caddy '68 took the articles of usable clothing contributed by the students and faculty to the American Indian Center in Chicago. |
