Tim, Linda Receive Award

The Soroptimist Club of Des Plaines presented its 1968 Citizenship award of $100 to Timothy Hinde '68 and the runnerup award of $50 to Linda Wells '68.

Announcement of the awards was made by Mrs. Morgan O'Brien, chairman of the Soroptimist Club's Civic and Public Relations Committee. Tim and Linda and their parents will be honored guests of Soroptimist Club members at a dinner meeting later in the season, at which time formal presentation of the two awards will be made.

As winner of the local Citizenship Award, Tim Hinde is also eligible to compete for the Midwestern Regional Award, and the regional winner goes on to vie for the $2,500 Soroptimist Foundation Citizenship Award, established to encourage youth to develop the highest concept of patriotism and cooperation in home, community, national, and international affairs.
Among Tim's activities at Maine West are participation in Concert Band and Concert Orchestra all four years, recipient of several music awards, and membership in Modern Music Masters. He has been a member of the school's swimming team for all four years, winning a letter in the sport, and was named captain by the other team members.

Linda's activities at Maine West include being elected Student Council secretary, Freshman Class president, and a member of Brotherhood Society and the Homecoming court. She has been a member of the Aquiana Swim Club, Dance Club, and G.A.A. She has also received the DAR award and a science award.

The selection of Tim Hinde as the Des Plaines Soroptimist Club's Citizenship Award winner was based upon his answers to questions in the official application form and upon the excellent letters of recommendation submitted with it.
