Cryan Shames Concert To Highlight G.I. Drive |
|||||||||
| A G.I. Drive will take place beginning on Monday, April 29, to Friday, May 3. The Drive at Maine West will be sponsored by Student Council. Students are asked to contribute in their homerooms or during lunch periods. The purpose of the G.I. Drive is to provide entertainment for American troops in Viet Nam. Funds collected will be sent to the United Service Organizations (USO) for the purchase of radios, record players, and tape recorders. Jody Kinder '69 Student Council Organizations chairman commented, "We hope that a lot of kids contribute because it's a major cause." She continued, "It's to help our boys in Viet Nam." During the course of the week several assemblies will be held to show slides of American troops in Viet Nam. Student Council will also write to the families of troops stationed in Viet Nam. In addition a plaque was recently installed in the front entrance honoring former Mainites who were killed in action in Viet Nam. |
The highlight of the G.I. Drive will take place on Sunday, May 5. A concert, starring the Cryan Shames, For Days and a Night, and WCFL disc jockey Dick Biondi is scheduled for that Sunday. The concert will be presented twice, the first one at 6:30 p.m. and the other at 8:45 p.m. Tickets are on sale in the bookstore and in the cafeteria for $2.50; no seats will be reserved. Tickets for either performance may also be obtained from Roxy Doremus '71, Debbie Lusk '70, Jim Webster '69, or Tony Tosterud '68. Student Council asks the student body to make this a successful drive. For further information contact Linda Wells '68, chairman of the Human Relations Committee. |
