| "Oh, the sauce is so hot it i burns your mouth out." This was the reaction of most of the members of the Spanish Club who dined at the Los Amigos Spanish Restaurant on Friday night, April 4. The club members sampled such spicy treats as tacos, enchiladas, tortillas, and other equally hot and exotic foods. To ease digestion problems, after dinner the group was serenaded by a "mariachi" or strolling orchestra consisting of four guitars. Over 300 juniors will get the day off when they visit the state capital's historical sites on Tuesday, April 30. It will be a full day with the caravan of busses leaving at 5:45 a.m. Points of interest will include: New Salem State Park where Abraham Lincoln made the transition from rail splitter to lawyer and state representative; Lincoln's Tomb; Lincoln's Springfield home; the State Capitol building; and the Ill. State Museum. |
Members of the Key Club attended their annual District Convention at Peoria on April 5-7. Bill Schmeltzer, former president of Key Club, said the purpose of the convention was "to elect district officers and to inspire the individual Key clubber to give greater service to his community." This morning the seniors heard Miss Georgie Ann Geyer, former Latin American Correspondent for the Chicago Daily News speak on the current trend of Latin American affairs. She was then questioned by a panel of Dan Brinkman '68, James Genellie '68, Antoinete Doroskin '68, and Jean Spindler '68. This assembly was the prototype for a Channel 11 show using the same format. Miss Geyer has held several interviews with Fidel Castro and has interviewed Guatamalan guerillas in the mountains. |
