Seniors Experience PAR |
|||||||||
| The 1967-68 school year at Maine West has been anything but dull. Though the going was rough at times, it seems that the majority of the students and faculty managed to survive the ordeals. Many changes in the school have taken place as a result. The student seminars are just getting into the full swing of things. We should be getting more definite results by next fall. This year's Senior Class won't be here then, but one important change that concerns the present seniors is the PAR program. The system, "Privileges Accentuate Responsibilities," is undergoing a trial period. So far, there have been relatively few problems as far as behavior goes. This trial period will |
determine whether or not the program will become a regular part of the procedure at Maine. |The major obstacle to overcome now is the atmosphere of the PAR study halls. Originally, these studies were available for studying and visiting in a "relaxed manner." However, many seniors have been disappointed to discover that they feel more like goldfish in a glass bowl than that like responsible young adults. It is true that these study halls are a far cry from the regular studies enjoyed by the rest of the school; but if the seniors are to be given the responsibility of self-discipline, the administration and faculty shouldn't be so reluctant to hand it over. |
