Diamondmen Down Prospect
7-0

So far, this season, the Maine West varsity baseball team has played a total of four games. The Warrior diamondmen have been able to win only one of these games.

On Thursday, April 11, the Warriors were able to produce a convincing 7-0 win against the team from Prospect. The diamondmen combined superlative pitching with a solid defensive effort to win the game.

Maine West's first game of the season and their first loss of the season came on Saturday, April 6. The Warriors lost a real heartbreaker to Oak Park. For the first six innings of the game the Oak Park pitcher, Lofgren, was able to contain the Warrior offense to a meager four hits. Meanwhile, Oak Park slowly compiled a 3-0 lead over Maine. All of Maine's scoring threats were nullified by the Huskies excellent fielding.

In the seventh inning the Warriors were able to tie up the game 3-3. Then they lost the game in the ninth inning as Oak Park scored three runs to win the game 6-3.
Maine's next opponent on Tuesday, April 9, was Morton West. Again the diamondmen encountered bad luck as they dropped the game by a score of 6-5.

After their 7-0 win against Prospect the Warrior luck turned from good to bad as the Warriors were soundly defeated by the Wildkits from Evanston. Maine West lost the game by a score of 12-5.

So far the Warriors have played only non-Conference games so that they still have a good chance to continue their unbroken string of Conference championships.

The Central Suburban League, is the only Conference to be represented by two teams in a state baseball championship game - Glenbrook North and Maine South in 1966. This Conference is reputed to be the best balanced in the state.

Maine West will play Glenbrook South on Wednesday, and on Friday, April 19, the Warriors will play the team which will probably be their toughest Conference opponent, Maine South.
