| To: Editor of the Westerner From: Concerned Faculty Subject: Prejudice at Maine West We, the undersigned faculty, being appalled and concerned by the racism and apathy displayed last week (Ed. Note: Week of April 8) at Maine West by many students and faculty, want to make the following public statement: 1. We mourn the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 2. We consider Dr. King to be a man deserving the admiration and respect of all good Americans. 3. We accept the proposition that all men are born equal and are deserving of equal treatment by American society. 4. We regard racial prejudice as a sickness that weakens our nation. 5. We believe that action in addition to words is needed to gain equality for all men. |
