West Places High in Track |

| Last Saturday Maine West placed ninth out of 18 participating schools at the Waukegan Relays. Two of the many fast times were those of Lee LaBadie '68, 4:13 minutes for the mile run; and Peter Klages '68, 9:48 minutes in the two-mile run. Several promising times were recorded in the Maine West versus Maine South meet. First place honors went to Terry Hammer '68, in the high and low hurdles, 15.0 and 22.5 seconds; Peter Klages in the two-mile run, 10 minutes and 10 seconds; and Lee LaBadie, the one-mile run, 4:35. Others who placed first were Robert Glitz '69, who ran the 880-yard run in 2:08; David Marrinson '69, who went 5'6" in the high jump; and William Fisher '69, who did 10'6" in the pole vaulting event. |
Second and third place honors were won by Gary Pruitt '69 in the high hurdles and Gary Wolf '69 in the one-mile run and Gerald Kranik '70 and David Getsla '68 in the 440-yard run. Others participating included David Hooper '68, in the 220-yard run and the 100-yard run; Kenneth Zyrkowski '68, in the high jump; John Aylward '69 in the pole vault, Larry Kahler '68 in the long jump; and Daniel Burtow '68, in the shot put. The First Annual Niles North Viking Relays were held on Saturday, April 20. The following placed high: David Marrinson, 5'4" in the high jump; David Behrens '68, 20' in the long jump; James Mueting '68, 11'6" in the pole vault; Peter Kiages, 10 minutes and 30 seconds in the two-mile run; David Hooper '68, 8.6 seconds in the 90-yard dash; and Lee LaBadie, 4 minutes and 19 seconds in the mile run. Mr. Joseph Jobst stated that he is pleased with the improvement in the team. |
