| The crystal ball clouds over and who should appear as this week's "Warrior of the West" but Dave Williams, a prominent tennis player. As the mist settles, Dave can be discerned as a 5'll", brown-eyed, brown-haired senior. "Through tennis I have learned the value of competition, how to strengthen my concentration, and the importance of trying my hardest," states Dave. Dave plans to attend the University of Illinois' Engineering School in Urbana. To be brief and to the point, Dave is interested in being an aeronautical astronomical engineer. Although he has not definitely decided upon this vocation, Dave's chief vocational interest would be in one of the many fields of science. |
Although Maine West has often been criticized, Dave is proud of his school. "Our school is outstanding - especially scholastically - I've talked to many adults who whole-heartedly agree." Dave becomes tired of "kids who think that tennis is just a fun sport; it is really very challenging." He also expressed disappointment when "sometimes only about two spectators show up to see a tennis match." Calculus AP, Chemistry II AP, English IV AP, democracy, and engineering graphics make up the busy schedule of Dave Williams. Dave's advice to other tennis players is that participating in summer tennis tournaments is really valuable. Dave played in several tennis meets this past summer. He was able to participate in a Chicago tennis program. Poof! The crystal ball image passes into smoke, but somewhat of an ideal, Dave Williams remains to play his hardest at a game he enjoys. |
