Referendum To Go Before Voters

On Saturday, June 8, voters of Maine Township will vote on a referendum to raise the ceiling on educational fund tax levy.

The issue covered by the proposed referendum is to increase the Educational Fund tax levy ceiling for Maine Township High Schools by $.21 from $1.42 to $1.63 per $100 of assessed valuation. It will be used to meet the costs of increasing student enrollment. Only as much of the $.21 will be used as the school board deems necessary.
The purpose of the levy increase is to provide the high school board with funds to pay for teachers' salaries and supporting materials, supplies, and services.

An increase is needed because it is used for operation of Maine West, South, and East. At present the district's high schools are operating in the red. It is anticipated that at the end of the 1967-68 school year there will be a deficit of 1.5 million dollars in the fund.
