Stickmen Victorious In Dual Attempt |
|||||||||
| "Our team is really coming around," smiled Tom Redmond '68. "A high conference ranking is coming into sight!" Tom, like the rest of the varsity stickmen, have good reason to smile, as their team has gotten progressively better - with the exception of a very slim victory by Maine South (166-169) on May 6. Scores in that game for Maine West were Dave Grutzius and Tom Redmond with 41's and Bob Edwards with a 40. Just two days before, on May 4, the golfers took fourth place in the Wheeling Invitationals at the Chevy Chase Country Club. Maine West's next victory was a handy 174-177 against Niles North, with Ken Helfers as low scorer with 42. |
Districts were next in sight, and the Maine West stickmen tied for ninth place, one step ahead of last year. Scores totaled 330, with Dave Krowka '68 shooting an 86, Jim Reed '68 with 83, Tom Redmond '68 and Bob Edwards '70 posting 80's in spite of the difficult competition. This Tuesday, May 14, showed yet another victory for West against Niles West, with the final score of 171-192. Scorers for this game were Bob Edwards, shooting a 40; Dave Grutzius, with 41; Tom Redmond turning in a 42. With Glenbrook North as the only school yet to be played before the conference meet, the Maine West stickmen are sure to display some interesting and difficult competition. As Tom Redmond stated, "We have high ambitions for the conference meet." |
