| Football isn't the only sport that claims Dave Krowka. He has played golf for four years on the freshman, sophomore, and varsity teams. "We play our home games at the Golden Acres Country Club in Roselle. Last Saturday we placed fourth out of 20 in the Wheeling Invitational; otherwise, we're not doing too well. "I think every guy should try out for sports. If guys don't, all they do is go home and sleep. They're centered around a certain clique of kids, and they don't get to know different guys." Besides playing golf and football, Dave is a member of Spir-it Senate and is vice-president of M-Club. He also occupies himself with skiing and "girls you can quote me on that." After high school Dave will be going to Northern Illinois University, but he won't be playing any sports. He'll be studying geology and planning for a future career with NASA. |
Dave feels that the field house will greatly improve the spirit at school. "Maine West is the best school around. We've got a good coaching staff and a good teaching staff. I don't see why all these kids are complaining. West is fine just the way it is." Added to all his sports and outside activities, Dave has a full schedule this year. His subjects include trig and college algebra, government, English IV W, and geology, his favorite subject. Summer is the time for vacations, and Dave is all for them. He has already been to Florida; and he says that Colorado, "Ski Country," is his next aim. "Home" this summer will be Lake Park. Not only will he be busy golfing but working as a day-camp counselor as well. "I think that the PAR program is about the best program Maine West has, but sometimes it does get to feel like you're in a fish bowl. The seminars are doing a pretty good job, but I think the one on spirit is unnecessary. If kids don't have spirit now, you can't push it on to them." |
