| By BARB GOODEY The various committees of Student Council have done a great deal this past year. From Homecoming to the new PAR program it's been a busy year for Council. Organizations Committee, headed by Jody Kinder '69, planned Homecoming, Election Week, representative elections, the GI Drive, and the Cryan Shames concert. It was during Homecoming Week that Carole Hway '68 was chosen Homecoming queen; during Election Week that Randy Hann '69 and Linda Wesolowski '69 were elected Student Council president and secretary; during the GI Drive that the Cryan Shames played and Council made $2,396.66 for the GI's. Terry Newport '68, Public Relations Committee chairman, handled two "Breakfasts with the Brass," breakfasts with members of the administration, calendar girl elections, "Dial Tones," the junior high leadership convention on May 25, Student Council handbooks, and the organizational bulletin board in front of the cafeteria. The committee also handled an exchange day with Prospect High School. |
The Social Committee, headed by Carole Hway '68, sponsored the biggest money making project of the year - V-Show. During this year's V-Show, Council made over $2,000. Social Committee also handled V-Show tickets, programs, publicity, business, cast party, and usherettes. They were also in charge of freshman officer elections, freshman Student Council elections, Newcomers' Party, Spirit Day, the coke machine, after dances, the Election Jitney, Clean-Up Week, and most recently Lee LaBadie Day and the scroll presented to him. Service Committee planned Teacher Appreciation Week, Clean-Up Week, a June 2 visit to an orphanage, music in the cafeteria before school, moving the motorcycle rack, ordering mir-rors for boys' washrooms, and music in the cafeteria during lunch. Also, they kept up the suggestion box, ordered letters for the front arches, obtained and printed the Maine West drive sign, concerned themselves with ways to protect the seal, and cleaned the rugs around the seal. Carolyn Hummel '69 was chairman of the committee. AFS Committee chairman, Sue Odom '68, and her committee planned AFS Week. During AFS week there was a hairy legs contest and a record hop. Human Relations Committee organized the GI Drive assemblies. The assemblies concentrated on the present situation in Viet Nam and revealed the names of students in Viet Nam. Marty Bushey '69 dedicated the plaque listing the names of former students killed in Viet Nam. |
