Clinics for the preliminary tryouts were held May 16 and 17. The girls tried out on Monday, May 20. Out of the 60 girls who tried out, 21 were chosen as finalists. The Maine West pep song was used for the preliminaries.

On May 21 the finalists attended a clinic to learn the rou-tine for the finals. The routine was made up by the senior
girls on the squad, and a different song was used. The finals took place on Wednesday, May 22, at which time the new squad was selected.

The judges for the finals were Monty Abbott '68, Carol Carstens '68, Beth French '68, Larry Kahler '68, Linda Larsen '68, Linda Peterson '68, Ellen Sangster '68, and Debbie Sider '68.

Some of the teachers judging were Mr. Sidney Drain, Miss Jarvis (a student teacher), Mrs. Nancy Kerby, and Miss Marcia Storey. The girls were judged on their kicks, coordination pep, smile, splits, and appearance.

The finalists were asked to perform with others so the judges could predict how well they did with group harmony.
