Diamondmen End Season

The Maine West varsity baseball team was scheduled to play their final game of the season last week. On May 13 the Warriors lost another fingernail-biter by the score of 2-1. The opponents were Maine South.

A battle of pitching was primarily displayed as each team managed only five hits. It took two extra innings to complete the game, and West's only run was scored by pitcher Harry Tistle.

On May 18 Maine became the victims of an overpowering Niles West offense as they lost this home game by the
score of 9-1. After this game the Warriors found themselves with an overall season record of 7-6. Before taking on Glenbrook North in the final game, the diamond men had set their eyes on a fourth place finish in the Central Suburban League.

So, Maine West has ended an-other successful year in baseball. When asked how he would summarize the season, varsity baseball Coach Albert Carstens stated, "We started out slow but came on strong and finished strong." Coach Carstens expressed his hopes for next year too with the "return of many experienced juniors along with the addition of some fine sophomores."
