Queen To Be Announced At Games Here Tonight |
|||||||||
| "The new Homecoming Queen for '67 is . . . . " These memor-able words will echo throughout the football stadium during the half-time of the varsity game tonight. Who is the most qualified to receive this honor? Dark Polynesian hair and eyes add to the beauty of 5'4" Joan Beyer. Joan has been active in Student Council, Spirit Senate, Pep Council, Brotherhood Society, and J.V. and Varsity Cheerleaders for the past four years at Maine. Joan was in the bathtub when she was notified that she had been chosen by her classmates to be a finalist, and her first reaction was to scream. "To be well known, a good personality, and pretty good looking" was her comment on the qualities of a Homecoming Queen. "Homecoming," she replied, "is great and exciting!" Joan decided that "just being myself" is the most important asset to help her to be known and liked. "Odie," as Sue Odom's friends refer to her, has been on Christmas Court two years, the A.F.S. chairman, on Student Council, and secretary-treasurer of Brotherhood Society. The petite 51", blond-haired Sue believes "friendliness, personality, and good looks" are the characteristics of a Homecoming Queen. Sue's reaction when told she was selected as one of the nine candidates was to laugh. She just couldn't believe it. "Personality, zest, pep, and to be friendly" are Carole Hway's answer to the qualities of the Homecoming Queen. Carole has been in Student Council, Concert Choir, Choraliers, V Show, and the musical. Carole believes Homecoming is the one time of the year everyone should participate in float building and in school spirit. It is also a time for the graduates to come back and visit with the students. "It would be the greatest thing and a terrific honor to become Homecoming Queen." Carole was shocked and couldn't move when the congratulations for becoming one of the candidates rang in her ears. "A Homecoming Queen should be active in school activities and should have done something for our school," remarked Carole. The almost 5'3", honey-blond Barb Basner is one of the nine candidates vying for the honor of becoming Queen. Student and Class Council, Senior Leaders, Brotherhood Society, and Pep Club have kept Barb busy in her past years at Maine. Her first reaction to hearing the news of her honor was crying, shock, and thinking it was a dream. "Personality and someone who is proud of her school" should represent our school as Homecoming Queen. |
Delann Olson, who is sometimes nicknamed "Del," cried, laughed, and then cried when she received the news of the nine candidates. The long, light brown hair and light-blue eyes add to the petiteness of the 5'2" "Del." Delann's present activities are Student Council and a fashion board. She hopes to be in V-Show this year. "Personality, good looks, and a real interest in our school" are the qualities Delann believes the Homecoming Queen must possess. "The biggest activity of the year is Homecoming, involving all of the students," decided Delann. Linda Wells, Student Council secretary, has been involved in Aquiana, Senior Leaders, Ski Club, G.A.A., and was Freshman vice-president and Junior Class secretary. Linda, 5'4", was by the pool when Greg Essig relayed the news of the voting. She stuttered and was speechless, then cried. Linda believes "personality and the Queen's beauty" are most important for a successful Homecoming Queen. The perky smile of Beth French accents her light-brown hair and her height of 5'6" "Bep," as Beth's friends sometimes call her, is active in Aquiana, Pom-Pon, Concert Choir, Pep Club, and has been in V-Show and the musical. "Homecoming is great and a chance to meet people at the game and floats. It also brings the whole school together and increases the school spirit." Beth was shocked and happy, although she couldn't cry, when she received the wonderful news of becoming one of the nominees. "A Homecoming Queen should possess a friendliness, poise, and cheerfulness toward everyone. "Excitement, fun, and a time to fire-up" is Diana Quinn's opinion of Homecoming. Diana is active in Brotherhood Society, Class and Student Council, and Pom-Pon. Diana never expected to be one of the candidates, but she is flattered to be chosen. "Beauty and personality" are Diana's views for the ideal Homecoming Queen. When she learned she was chosen, her first reaction was to freeze and stand in place. Blond-haired, blue-eyed Linda Larson has been active at Maine the last four years. She has been in Pep Club and Council, Westerner, Quill and Scroll, Pom-Pon captain, V-Show choreographer, Class Council, V Show, and the musical. Linda was happy and surprised when she received the news of being one of the Homecoming candidates. "Friendliness, sincerity, and a representative of our school" was Linda's opinion of the qualifications for Homecoming Queen. |
