Di, Ellen Serve West On Student Council |
|||||||||
| "Take advantage of the help your teachers are willing to give you" is the advice Diana Quinn gives to her fellow students. She feels this way one can get the most out of his subjects. The 5'7", brown-haired, baby blue-eyed senior is this year's Student Council treasurer. Diana's duties as treasurer are to write to our foster child, My, and send her the money she needs. Diana also keeps account of the treasury funds and reports the figures t& the rest of the Council. Often one can find Diana in the Student Council office looking busy while working on her Student Council business. "A better student-teacher relationship" is what Diana thinks would best improve Maine West. Diana is a girl of many and varied accomplishments that include being a member of the Pom-Pon Squad, Class Council, Brotherhood Society, and a candidate for Homecoming Queen. Her courses this year include English IVE, government, democracy, Drama I, and Art III. Diana's favorite class is art because Mr. Mattson comes in her room sometimes to talk to Mr. Blanas. Diana thinks that "Mr. Mattson's a doll!" Although Diana hasn't thoroughly made up her mind yet as to what to do about her future, she plans on going to either Northern Illinois University or Northern of Iowa. At college she wants to go into the field of specialized education. She wants to help and teach mentally retarded children. When asked what was the funniest thing that ever happened to her, Diana exclaimed, "oh Bwana!" which is her favorite saying, "I guess the funniest thing was last year when I was kidnapped for my birthday. My friends blindfolded me and dragged me through downtown Des Plaines, then took me to a party. It was a lot of fun really, but it can really shake you up at first." |
"The psychedelic paint on the walls" is Ellen Sangster's opinion of the best thing about Maine West. This 5'21/2", brown-haired, hazel-eyed senior is the vice president of Student Council and a member of Brotherhood Society this year. She has been active in class council, serving as vice-president of her sophomore class, treasurer of her junior class, and representative from her homeroom. "Odey," as she is called by her friends, keeps busy with Drama II, foods and clothing, government, democracy, and English IVW. As for plans for the future, she wants to be a primary grade or a physical education teacher. Ellen considers her favorite singing groups as being the Jefferson Airplane and Peter Paul, and Mary. She considers her favorite food anything Italian. Her favorite subject is P.E. "because I can talk." "Odey" had her funniest experience when she was shopping at Golf Mill and unknowingly had broken a bottle of shoe polish she had in a bag. When she finally noticed what had happened, the polish had dripped all over her nylons, purse, and the floor of the store. Her most embarrassing situation happened when she walked in on a teacher in the washroom. When asked what she thought of hippies, Ellen commented that she thought it was "interesting to learn their philosophy and way of life." Her advice to underclassmen is to "get good grades in order to go to a good college." The thing she would change about Maine West this year would be the "boring Senior assemblies." This summer Ellen went to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, with her parents. She also perfected her water skiing and is presently working on slalom skiing, that is skiing with only one ski. She feels that school spirit "always has room for improvement" and describes her pet peeve as "two-faced people." She describes her weirdest experience as happening when she went out to eat at the Edgewater Beach Hotel. Frankie Avalon was singing that night. She didn't know that. While she was walking around, she unknowingly passed him without even recognizing him. She thinks the best thing about Maine is the educational standards. She also wishes that the additions were on this year for the Class of '68 to enjoy. |
