In Council

By MARY DRAPER

School has only been in progress for five and a half weeks, and already Student Council is busy making plans which will benefit the student body.

Student Council's biggest undertaking, at the moment, is Homecoming. It was in charge of the nomination of the Homecoming candidates, planning the assemblies for the girls, rehearsals for the band, the parade, building the floats, counting the ballots for Queen, and crowning the Queen at the Homecoming dance.

Last year the Council sponsored a book drive. These books, plus old texts and library books, will be sold in the Bookstore. The money collected from them will be used for a Needy-Student Fund.
A memory record is being made by the Public Relations Committee of Student Council. Candid tapes are being made of different events which should be remembered. For instance, tapes were made of students talking at the Sports Spectacular. Be careful of what you say, kids!

The Service Committee is going to raise money to buy a memorial plaque. On it will be the names of the boys who went to Maine West and died in the service of their country.

There are only a few Activity Calendars left, which the Student Council is hoping to sell. In about one week the Dial-Tone will be coming in, which will be another job for Student Council. The Dial-Tone will be sold for $.50 in the homerooms and in the Bookstore.
