Education Rates High

"The future of America is written on school blackboards and in student notebooks. The quality of thought in our classrooms today will determine the quality of our lives a generation hence." These words, by the President proclaiming American Education Week, November 5-11, reflect America's concern for the education of all of her youth.

In celebration of this week Maine West has adopted the theme of "Maine West serves all students." This theme is a very accurate statement about Maine West, for whether one is a National Merit Scholar or one not planning on going to college, he can choose from college credit courses to secretarial training in all the major fields of study.
But then education is not all book learning: there are vocational studies for those who like to work with their hands. The importance of the blue collar worker can never be overestimated in our highly industrialized society.

Facts and a working knowledge of them-that is, the part of education which is taught in a classroom, is important to one's future. But there is also one more ingredient to the educated person-that is, knowing how to get along with people. Every day one must know how to deal with people. The school's environment of people and its after-school activities help a person to become a well rounded individual.

The goal of Maine West and American education is to mold an adult with enough experience in all fields to make a choice when confronted by life. If is to this end that American Education Week is dedicated.
