Class Hears Air Talk Via |
|||||||||
| The social science students of Mr. Harlan Suffield's class recently heard a "tele-lecture" on air pollution. The speakers for the program were two specialists in the field of respiratory diseases: Dr. Louis J. Kettel, Park Ridge; and Dr. Bertrum W. Carnow, Glencoe. The lecture was delivered from the offices of The Tuberculosis Institute of Chicago and Cook County (the Christmas Seal agency) in Chicago. The speeches were heard over classroom loudspeakers, and the students were able to ask questions via a special telephonic arrangement providing for two-way communication. Dr. Kettel is chief of the pulmonary diseases section of Veterans Research Hospital and is also a member of the Institute's board and is chairman of its respiratory disease committee. |
The doctor is on the staff of the Passavant Memorial Hospital and is an assistant professor of medicine at the Northwestern University Medical School. The other speaker, Dr. Carnow, is assistant professor of preventive medicine and public health at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He also serves as research physician for the air pollution study, Chicago Health Research Foundation, and as medical director, Chicago Bronchopulmonary Disease Registry. The program was arranged by the Institute with Mr. Suffield who handled the program for Maine West. The moderator for the discussion was Mrs. Diane Imhulse of the Institute's department of educational services. |
