MW Music Department To Present Concert For Christmastime |

| To herald the upcoming Christmas season, the Maine West Music Department will present its annual Christmas Concert on Friday, December 8, at 8 p.m. in the auditorium. The Concert Band, which has not participated in the Christmas Concert for several years, will open the program with Goldman's "Children's March," a collection of juvenile pieces. Under the direction of Mr. Robert Kuite the band will also perform "Polonaise" from the opera Christmas Night by Rimsky-Korsakov. Hayden's "Toy Symphony" will follow featuring Steve Cornelius '68, toy trumpet; Max Elsey '68, drum; Howard Peterson '68, finger cymbals; Bruce Nelson '69, ratchet and tambourine; Don Prorak '68, nightingale: John Houston '68, cuckoo; and Debbie Carroccio '68, quail. Variety will be added to the program when the band performs C. Saint-Saens' "Carnival of the Animals" with verses by Ogden Nash, read by narrator, Steve Cornelius. Twirlers Mary Ann Wallace '68 and Diane Becker '71 will be featured in "March of the Toys" from Babes in Toyland by Herbert. To carry on the Christmas mood the combined Girls' Choruses, directed by Mr. Wilbur Schafer, will sing "Lullaby |
for Mary's Son" by C. Wesley Anderson and "Mary Had a Baby," accompanied by Vicki Harrison '71. Don Behrens will accompany the male chorus in Clare Grudman's "Three Carols for Christmas." The Girls' Glee will present "There is No Rose" and "Balulalow" from A Ceremony of Carols by Britten. Marilyn Lussky '70 will be accompanying. An arrangement by Leroy Anderson entitled "A Christmas Festival" will be performed by the Concert Orchestra, directed by Mrs. Mildred Heidorn. Tchaikovskys "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" from the Nutcracker Suite, "The Spirit of Christmas," and "Symphony of Bells" arranged by F. Beckman will also be presented by the orchestra. Following the Concert Orchestra, the Choraliers will sing "The First Mercy" by Warlock, as well as a French tune "Masters in This Hall," accompanied by Don Behrens. The Concert Choir will conclude the program with such numbers as "Fanfare for Christmas Day," "How Lovely Shines the Morning Star," "Carol of the Drums," and Gruber's "Silent Night" as a recessional. |
