MW To Dedicate Plaque |
|||||||||
| Maine West will soon have a memorial plaque dedicated to its alumni who died while in the service of our country. This plaque, an idea of the Student Council, will be located in the area of the main entrance. It will list the names of the students who were, killed in action and tell in what conflict they fought. The motion to erect plaques at all of the schools has been before the Board of Education, which has been in favor of the idea since June; but complications, arising from the agreement that all of the plaques look alike, temporarily halted the project. |
Maine East, Maine township's high school since 1902, would subsequently list veterans from World War I to the Viet Nam conflict. A plaque of this size would be of monumental proportions in comparison with those of Maine South and Maine West. The Board is now discussing this problem. The walnut plaque, will be about 20 inches by 18 inches. An eight-inch, disc-shaped wreath will enclose the victory casting. The veterans' names will be engraved on small brass plates. The inscription on the plaque will read: In honor of Maine West students, who in the line of duty, have died in service of their country. Although it was the idea of Student Council, the Board of Education will pay for the plaque. The plaque will be delivered in about a month. |
