Basketball

The 1967-68 basketball season began with the home game against Waukegan on Wednesday, November 22.

The Warriors went down to defeat 52-38. The Waukegan squad had one factor in their favor before the game started, height. The Waukegan players were all significantly taller than head Coach Gaston Freeman's Warriors.

Perhaps this one factor was reason for the Maine West defeat. The Warriors appeared to have considerable trouble in sinking shots.

Trouble arose when one of the Waukegan players fouled Warrior Kurt Felde '68. The decision of the officials left some doubt as Kurt was removed from the game.

The second home game against Morton West disproved the idea of the Warriors' inability to make baskets as they skipped by the Morton West squad by a score of 56-52.

Harry Tistle '68 was in full stride as he popped in one basket after another. Bruce Kaechele '68 also showed his skill against the tough opposition by hitting the ring for 14 points.
The Morton West squad held up their push throughout the game. However, the Warrior attack was as strong, if not stronger. The score remained close for the entire game with both teams battling for the lead.

On the bases of first two games, the year's basketball season may show itself to be unpredictable and exciting.

Among the 11 teams facing the Warriors, one of the toughest is Maine South which has several returning lettermen on its first string line-up. How-

ever, the Warriors have excellent players to place against them.

In the Maine West line-up is Bruce Kaechele, who is returning this year as one of the leading basket makers. Again on the starting line-up is Harry Tistle. His shooting ability will give Maine West one great advantage.

On Friday, December 1, at 7 p.m. Maine West will play its first of two games against one of our biggest rivals, Maine South.
