Wrestling

The varsity grapplers started the wrestling season November 18 with what will probably be their easiest victory of the season when they rolled over Barrington in a non-Conference meet. The Broncos never really stood a chance against the mighty Warriors.

The main reason was they never showed up. Due to a lengthy football season, they were not yet in shape and told Maine West not to wait up.

The Warriors themselves didn't care. They spent the afternoon battling each other. The varsity won.

Fun was fun, but realizing they can't depend on that kind of luck all season, the matmen are busily getting ready for the Conference competition ahead.

Head Coach Richard Carlini emphasized that training will be of great importance this year. When asked of the varsity team's chances of success, he replied, "It all depends on how hard they work."
Mr. Carlini pointed out that the Conference is pretty well balanced this year, with Deerfield probably providing the toughest competition.

Helping to meet this challenge are seven returning lettermen: Gary Curtin, Kurt Christensen, Steve Waecker, Jim Klein, Jim Morrison, Tom Helms, and John Szaltis.

Concerning the rest of the squads, Coach Harlan Suffield felt that no statement concerning the junior varsity could be made until after the first meet. Unfortunately, they were not included in the Barrington meet.

Coach Donald Magsamen feels that the sophs should have a good season, as they did last year when they lost only a couple of meets.

The freshmen don't seem to be too bad, although Coach William Barringer stated that they could use some more heavyweights.
