| During the weeks before Christmas vacation various clubs at Maine West have or will be celebrating the holidays with group parties. Pep Club will sponsor an all Pep Club Christmas party on December 18 from 3:45 to 5 p.m. Punch and cookies will be served in the cafeteria and there will be no charge for the members. Singing of various Christmas carols will entertain the group. Other entertainment is now being planned. "All members are invited and should come for an enjoyable time," commented Linda Dolphin '68, a member of Pep Council. Miss June Thompson, girls' physical education teacher, is the sponsor; and Diane Kaminski '68 is the president of Pep Club. A dessert will be given by the Senior Leader girls for their secret Junior Leader sisters on December 19 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The girls are urged to wear their Sunday best. Entertainment will be presented by some of the Senior Leaders as Carole Hway and Bonnie Witzl will sing and then lead the group in folk songs. All members of the faculty are invited to attend. A hayride will be enjoyed by all members of Pegasus Club and their dates on December 17. The hayrack will be furnished by Dundee Stables. The regular meeting every Wednesday includes the members and any guests. Also the group has participated in horseshows, and members have won trophies. Kathe Wilson '68 is president, and Robin Van Isdol '69 is vice-president. The Future Nurses Club will substitute a Christmas celebration for their regular meeting on Tuesday, December 19. Included in the afternoon will be Christmas carols, games, and refreshments in C-109. The girls will create tray favors for a convalescent home during this meeting. "This meeting is open to all those who wish to join our club. This can be their first meeting," encouraged Mrs. Frances Ringl, a sponsor of the Future Nurses Club. Officers of the club are Rosalind Pracht '68, president; Barb Dapp '68, vice-president; Elizabeth Bednarz '68, corresponding secretary; Anita Mooney '68, recording secretary; and Barb Reinberber '68, treasurer. |
"Package Full of Surprises" was the theme for the G.A.A. Mother-Daughter Playnight on Tuesday, December 12, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The mothers were then included in the annual event. Activities for the evening included swimming, badminton, and gymnastics in C-wing gym. Christmas decor accented the evening, and refreshments were served in the cafeteria. The red covered matchboxes containing the invitations were secured with green ribbon and presented to the guests. Miss Judith Coddington, girls' physical education teacher, is the sponsor of G.A.A. The president is Renee Gatsis '68. Modern dance of Christmas carols will entertain the Orchesis group on Wednesday, December 20. This will take place after school in C-wing gym for the modern dance members. Brownies, Christmas cookies, and lemonade will be supplied by the members of the club. Also small grab bag gifts will be exchanged. Some of the songs being used for the dances will be "Silent Night," "We Three Kings of Orient Are," "What Child is This," and "Winter Wonderland." This club is sponsored by Mrs. Kathleen Lawyer, Nancy Mott '68 is president. Carol Mielke '69 is vice-president; Dawn Dalin '69 is secretary-treasurer; and Pam Potter '70 is in charge of publicity. Red Net and green trimmed Christmas stockings were the main objective for the Christmas party Friday night, December 1 for the Home Economics Club members. The party was held at the house of Marilyn Dickert '68, vice-president of the club. At the club's regular meeting Tuesday, December 5, the girls baked and decorated Christmas cookies. Colored sugar, coconut, and other decorations were added to the cookies. Then Wednesday after school the girls filled the stockings with the cookies and small toys. The officers then took these stockings to the Bensenville orphanage. As a French Club tradition the club had a party with a French theme on Tuesday, December 12. This year the group celebrated at the Field Museum instead of their regular meeting room since the museum creates a "Christmas Around the World." French Christmas trees and a large French dinner accented the party celebrated in the museum. Jeanette Platt '69 is president, and Linda Felke '69 is vice-president. The Girls' Club delivered Christmas stockings to the homerooms last Monday to be filled by the members of the homeroom. They will be removed by the club December 20. The members of the club will then deliver the filled stockings to various children's and settlement homes such as the De Paul Settlement Home. They will then be given out by the homes at Christmas. |
