Construction Begins |

| As a result of the passage of a $15,000,000 bond issue, Maine West's face is changing. With its $1,850,000 share of the referendum, the school is in the process of alleviating overcrowding, especially in the Library, Art, Music, and Industrial Arts Departments. Work has already begun in construction of two additional shops at the far end of D-wing. One will be an auto shop and the other a metal shop to meet the increasing enrollment in these courses. The library, undersized for Maine West, will be brought up to the standards of the North Central and American Library Associations by enlarging it with a two-story addition. |
The Music and Art Departments will find new homes in the E or multipurpose wing. In addition to larger quarters, the band and orchestra rooms will be wired for stereo and closed-circuit T.V. The new field house will finally allow, after 10 years, a Maine West class to graduate at Maine West. The field house, which will look something like Maine South's, will also allow real home basketball games and all-school assemblies. With these new improvements Maine West will be able to withstand 3,500 students (200 more than we have now). This however will probably be as big as Maine West will get, for the size of the halls impose unrectifiable expansion problems. |
