Musclemen Fall To
West Leyden

Gymnastics season has opened, and Maine West is once again in competition for the District meet. The meet held Friday, December 8, at West Leyden resulted in a loss for the Warriors. The seniors placed first in the meet, but the total score showed defeat at 701/2 to 601/2.

This year's only returning letterman is Richard Suda '68. Competition proves to be tough for Maine West, since there are only three seniors participating on the gymnastics team.

Upcoming meets this week are at home at 4:30 p.m. on December 12 against Oak Park and at home at 4:30 p.m. on December 15 against Forest View. These six events will be held at each meet: trampoline, side horse, high bar, parallel bars, still rings, and tumbling.
"Gymnastics is an individual and self-disciplined sport," commented Mr. Sidney Drain, gymnastics coach and business education instructor. He urges all freshmen and sophomores to participate in gymnastics.

It usually takes a boy about one year to become adequately skilled in his field. Later when he participates in meets, he is judged on his form and the difficulty and composition of the routine he performs. The number of points accumulated by all the members of the team at a meet determine which team wins.

This year the boys participating in gymnastics are - on trampoline - Tom Tyler '69, Royle Epperson '69, and Jim Janssens 69; high bar - Rick Didier '69, George Corcoran '68, and Jim Janssens; side horse - Mark Forkins '71, Bob Moehling '69, and Steve Fox '68; parallel bars - Bob Suda '69, Rick Didier, and Rich Suda 68; still rings - Jerry Allegretti '69, Bryant Ways '69, and George Corcoran; tumbling - Rich Suda, Allen Van Ornum '69, and Bill Johnson '69.
