Maine West Prepares Annual Variety Show

The curtains in the auditorium will open at 8 p.m. on February 8, 9, and 10 to reveal 'Reflections," Maine's ninth annual Variety Show.

Tickets for the two hour performance will go on sale next week with prices ranging from $1.25 to $1.75, depending upon the location of the seat. The tickets may be purchased in the Bookstore or from Maria Schaeffer's in downtown Des Plaines.

According to Cheri Schueler '68, student director, "This show is going to be bigger and better than ever." Before the show is completed, Cheri estimates that 300 students will have actively participated. The faculty director is Mr. John Graef.

Members of the acts have been practicing five days a week from 4 to 6 p.m. since Thanksgiving. During this time Doug Fager '68, Bob Connelly '68, and Peg Heller '68, coordinators, have been working with the acts to make the show run smoothly.

Cheri commented, "The kids are really enthusiastic about making this the greatest show ever. They're working awfully hard, and things are much more organized this year. As a matter of fact, the music schedule is two weeks ahead of where it was at this time last year."
Costume designs were distributed to act captains before Christmas vacation. All participants make their own costumes. Dress rehearsals will be held in the auditorium the week preceding V-Show.

"Stage West '68" will include several features never before used in a variety show. For example, there will be several abstract sets and a wing annexed to the stage. Set directors are Gordon Shirling '68 and Tom Wilson '69.

Make-up will be an innovation this year. Since the type of characters range from Charlie Brown to a villain, the makeup crew will strive to have the make-up fit the part. Anyone interested in working as a member of the Make-up Crew should contact Lee Rodin '68, make-up director.

A clock counting off the days until the show will be displayed in front of the cafeteria preceding V-Show. Publicity for "Reflections" will be handled by the Publicity Committee headed by Al Long '68.
