Warrior of the West

"A wrestler develops aggressiveness, desire, agility, speed, strength, and endurance," emphasized this issue's Warrior of the West. The Warrior of the West is no other than the aggressive, agile, speedy, and strong Kurt Christensen.

Kurt stands 5'8" tall and wrestles at 112 pounds. He has blond hair and blue eyes. He has participated in wrestling for four years and has earned two letters in that sport.

Kurt has also earned two letters in cross country. He plans to attend the University of Wyoming where he is going to major in business management. He is now secretary of M-Club.

"Any boy can benefit from wrestling; he would be in better shape, stay out of trouble, and learn not to quit when he gets discouraged," explained Kurt.

Each wrestler is expected to follow a list of training rules. Most of these rules apply to year-round training. No smoking and no drinking are just a few of the restrictions placed upon athletes.
"The purpose of training rules," explained Kurt, "is to help the athlete stay healthy. Even after the athletic season is over, the athlete has a good chance of coming out of it as a person better able to master self-discipline.

"There are some athletes who break the training rules and think they are fooling the coaches. But they are only hurting themselves because they are lessening their potential ability."

Kurt Christensen proves to be far-sighted when it comes to evaluating the school system. He measures the value of a school policy by the effectiveness it will have on the student in the future.

Kurt demonstrated his foresight when he said, "I think students should be allowed to accept more responsibility in high school. There are too many high school graduates who enter college with no self-discipline."
