Warriors Trounce Glenbrook South

Maine West lost a very spirited game to its arch rival, Maine South, last Friday night by the score of 72-42. The undefeated Hawks' victory was rather expected; for in spite of determined Warrior rebounding, South's height advantage proved to be a major factor in the outcome of the game.

The Warriors steadily lost ground throughout the contest, while virtually all Warrior scoring was left to seniors Harry Tistle and Bruce Kaechele with 16 and 14 points respectively.

Tie cagers also suffered defeat the previous weekend against Niles West and Deerfield. Maine had a 28-24 lead at the half against Niles, but one Indian led them with 17 points in the third quarter to help Niles win 72-53.

The Warriors also dropped a 54-47 decision to Deerfield. With only a 25-23 deficit Maine again had trouble the second half. Top scorers were Kurt Felde '68 and Tistle, each with 16 points, at Deerfield and Niles respectively.
The netmen dealt a 57-49 defeat to Glenbrook South earlier. Glenbrook held a 2-point lead only at the very beginning, after which Maine led all the way. Tistle was again leading scorer with 24 points.

Forward thinking Coach Gaston Freeman has had several juniors playing on the team. "This gives them varsity experience," he explained. "You've got to have a nucleus. I think we have the finest bunch of juniors we've had in a long time. They've got size, and they're dedicated."

The junior varsity lost to Maine South 77-55 and Niles West 82-59. However they beat Deerfield 58-51 and Glenbrook South 74-52. The sophs lost to Maine South, Niles West, and Deerfield, but beat Glenbrook. The freshmen beat Maine South, Niles, and Glenbrook, although losing to Deerfield.
