| The Maine West varsity swim team suffered their fourth consecutive defeat last Saturday when they fell to Deerfield 60-35. Conference title contender, Deerfield, however, was the only team in the last four meets to have beaten Maine by more than five points. Maine West won four events in the meet. First places were taken by Dan Brinkman '68 in the 50 and 100-yard free styles arid Chris Olander '69 in the 200-yard individual medley. Skip Parent '71 broke his own school record in the 400-yard free style with a time of 4:17.7. The Warriors were edged 49-46 the preceding Tuesday at Riverside. First places were captured by Warriors in six events. Parent won the 200-yard free style followed by Olander in the 200-yard individual medley. Mike Teegan '68 placed first in diving preceding Brinkman and Olander in the 100-yard free style and 100-yard backstroke respectively. Ted Loska '69 won the 100-yard breast stroke. Although the tankers lost to Glenbrook South 50-45, the meet was one of their more successful ones. Maine won c i g h t events. After West won the 200yard medley relay, Parent took first in the 200-yard free style, followed by Olander in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly, |
Brinkman in the 100-yard free style, Jim Lillquist '69 in the 100-yard backstroke, Parent in the 400-yard free style, and Loska in the 100-yard breast stroke. Olander set a new school and pool record in this meet in the individual medley by swimming the 200 yards in 2:13.1. Brinkman broke the school record for the 50-yard free style with the time of 52.1. In addition, 18 personal best times for the Warriors were recorded at Glenbrook. Maine West lost to Maine South 50-45 in an earlier meet. Six events were captured by the Warriors: the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, diving, 100-yard butterfly, 400-yard free style, and the 100-yard breast stroke. The frosh-sophs have been far-ing about the same. They lost to Deerfield 68-26 following their defeats against Riverside, 50-45, and Glenbrook South, 56-39. They did, however, beat Maine South 49-46. Coach Peter Andersen feels that the varsity's main problem concerns lack of depth. Maine produces plenty of first-place winners each meet but isn't always backed up by second and third-place winners needed to win. |
