Indoor Track Season Begins |
|||||||||
| With the sports year already half over the indoor track season will soon be in full swing. Coach Joe Jobst's cindermen had their first meet last Tuesday against Proviso West. Coach Jobst was not sure about his lineup before Maine's first meet, but he will be relying heavily on the returning lettermen who are Lee LaBadie '68, Jim Mueting '68, Terry Hammer '68, Larry Nelson '68, Bob Richter '68, and Larry Kahler '68. Other returning trackmen include John Szaltis '68, Dave looper '68, Gary Pruitt '69, Gene Behrens '69, and Gary Wolf '69. |
Coach Jobst considered distance running, pole vaulting, and the hurdles to be the team's strong points while the shot put and discus throw appear to be the only weak spots. He also urges "more sophomores and freshmen to try out for the team." When asked for a prediction on the season. Coach Jobst replied, "We should be right up there." The toughest opponents in West's Conference this year figure to be Niles North, Deerfield, and Maine South. Although the cindermen's first meet was away, the next three are scheduled at home beginning on February 7 with Niles East. |
