| "If there's any snow left, I'd love to go again," insists Donna Woollard '68. Her response is typical of those who braved the slopes of Indianhead and Powderhorn on Ski Club's first extended trip - and Donna is now recovering from a broken ankle she received there. Actually, Donna's was the only serious injury incurred by the three-day "week-ender" February 10, 11, and 12. More than 70 members of the 250 member club attended the long awaited event, which was being planned for nearly five months. The group started their trek to Michigan's upper peninsula area after school Friday, February 9, and arrived at Timberlane Lodge after 1 a.m. Six inches of new snow made conditions perfect for skiing Sunday and Monday. Club members even staged their own "classic film short," photographed by Mr. Chester Rideout, sponsor. Members also made use of two snowmobiles and ice skated on the lake adjacent to the lodge during their recent outing. |
Members of the Maine West Pegasus Club participated in the Midwest Riding Stable's horse show in Dundee on February 4. Three members of Pegasus won awards. Jan Osborn '71 was awarded a trophy in the game classification. Sam Bonner '71 took fourth place in the intermediate over fence class. Karen Ladendorf '71 won the third place ribbon in the beginners class. On May 4 the Pegasus Club will put on its own horse show. Only Maine West students may enter, and ribbons and trophies will be awarded in each class. "Pegasus Club is a fine opportunity for students who are interested in the sport of horseback riding. Lessons are available by qualified teachers in a spacious arena indoors," commented Miss Jeanne Nasca, sponsor. |
